Palm trees have been growing in Cambodia for a very long time. Palm trees provide many benefits to Cambodian people which includes the use of stem, leave, trunk, fruit and flowers which contains palm juice. Kampong Chhnang is bordering on Kampong Speu, Pursat, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom and Kandal Province. All these provinces have numerous palm trees and are able to produce sufficient palm sugar for domestic market and export.

Today, with a support from DATe and GERES organization, palm sugar producers are forming a community in order to increase value added, employment and income, especially for women living in Trapaing Sbov village, Andong Russey and other villages in Rolear Biear District. This will prevent migration between districts. DATe processes natural palm sugar into palm sugar powder, which is then packed and labeled in order to be distributed in the domestic market export to international markets.

In the next five years DATe and GERES intend to increase the number of ovens from now 35 to 5,000. The ovens provided to palm sugar producers are technically highly efficient as they require less wood while also protecting the operator as well as the surroundings from inhaling smoke.

  • Production size: More than 1,200 ton per year.
